SEO Case Study for a Regional Catering Company

In October of 2019, a regional catering company servicing the San Diego, CA area approached us to help them expand their business into the Los Angeles area. With a strong online presence in Southern California, it was time for them to grow into new markets. In our initial meetings with the clients, we noticed that they had a strong online presence, but weren’t ranking for a few key targeted keywords that could really help them with their current footprint. We also identified a couple of opportunities that would ultimately help them solidify their presence in their current market, allowing the business to focus almost exclusively on their expansion goals. We also identified some gaps in their branding, finding inconsistencies with their online listings, menus, and key visuals.

Our Solution:

During the first 30 days, we worked with the client to correct their online listings on sites like EZ Cater, Expertise, The Knot, and more. We created a new menu format and put that into a digital format so that we could expand their keyword cloud exponentially. Next, we focused on refining their content strategy by creating new landing pages targeting the Los Angeles market and a series of weekly blogs featuring various venues and recent success stories. We also used a PR for SEO strategy where we used a combination of thought leadership, influencer, and earned media features to build the brand throughout the Southern California market. This helped provide the exposure and high domain authority backlinks that we needed to boost their rankings.

Results

In the first 90 days, we increased their rankings from 148 keywords on the 1st page of Google to over 310! The client saw their website traffic increase 31.55% in the first month alone. Overall, we were able to penetrate the Los Angeles market getting 96 keywords to the first page of Google in the first 6 months. At the conclusion of this study, the client saw a 104% increase in site traffic and 65% increase in overall business. The client saw features in prominent local media outlets such as CBS 2 and KCAL 9, KTLA, ABC 10, and Fox 5.
